TN Visa

Registered Nurses who are citizens of Canada may temporarily work in the United States under provisions of the NAFTA. Our on-site immigration specialists will guide you through the necessary steps to obtain a TN Visa. We will also provide you with the requirements for dependents traveling with you.
The following is a list of required documentation for applicants seeking admission under NAFTA. All documents must be originals or certified copies and prepared in English (certified translations may be accepted). Please note non-Canadian citizen dependents of Canadian nurses may need special arrangements.

  1. Current RN license for the state of intended employment
  2. Current Canadian RN license
  3. RN Education Diploma that must show you obtained a degree to practice as a Registered Nurse
  4. Employment offer letter from ATC Travelers. The letter
will include title (Registered Nurse), duties, income, hours (full-time) and
date frame (example - October 21, 2004 through October 20, 2005). This form will be mailed to you from your ATC Travelers Recruiter.
  5. Canadian Birth certificate and/or passport
proving Canadian citizenship for everyone traveling. Passports must be valid for at
least six months beyond the intended length of stay in the U.S.
  6. Port of Entry/BCBP processing fee currently is $50.00(USD) base fee and $6.00 (USD) for each person petitioning for entry.
  7. Marriage certificate or any other evidence of legal name changes
  8. Effective July 2004 – Visa Screen Certificate (also known as Health Care Worker Certification) will be required for certain Canadian RNs. Your recruiter will advise you.

Port of Entry processing is usually complete in just a few minutes and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Officer will issue an arrival/departure record card to each applicant, usually for a period of 12 months. In effect, this card (sometimes referred to as an I-94 card) is the authorization to live and work in the United States on a temporary basis.
